On Friday evening we were delighted to welcome Professor Jeremy Black, from Exeter University, who spoke about English nationalism, our long and tangled relationship with continental Europe, and – of course – Brexit.
Professor Black is one of the country's leading diplomatic and military historians, and his lecture was compelling and erudite. A significant part of the evening was given over to questions from the floor, with the majority coming from pupils, who demonstrated an admirable grasp of both history and politics. Professor Black was then joined for supper afterwards by pupils from Mount Kelly and Tavistock College, where the debate continued.
