71 pupils from Years 9-13 braved the elements at the weekend to complete their Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh practice expeditions or their first Ten Tors training walk. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, DofE expeditions have been adapted so that pupils walk for two days but return home overnight – this was much appreciated given the awful weather!
Pupils in Year 11 and 13 all showed great determination over the two days, navigating through some tough new ground on the edge of the moors to complete their walk.
On Sunday, the Ten Tors teams from Years 9-12 showed great enthusiasm and grit completing some tough routes on the moors. It was the first walk for the majority of Year 9 pupils and they coped extremely well, keeping spirits high and learning first-hand what Dartmoor can throw at you! We look forward to seeing them develop into independent navigators ready to take on the challenge of the Ten Tors event next May.
