As we are still unable to take part in volunteering in local care homes and charity shops, our activities this term are based outdoors, come rain or shine! As part of Wednesday’s Service afternoon, a group of Year 9 and 10 pupils have been helping to clear the Parish Gardens to prepare them for future events in the community, as lockdown measures ease. The gardens are overgrown with brambles and ivy, and pupils, armed with secateurs and heavy-duty gloves have already made an impact on the flower beds.
Another group has been traveling to Yelverton playground to help improve the area for the families who play and picnic there. Another group has been spending time picking up litter around Tavistock, and doing their bit to support the local Tidy Tavi volunteers.
Devon Youth Parliament has recently contacted us with information about the ‘Clean Up Devon’ litter picking campaign which is taking place over half-term. We hope that some of our pupils and their families will get involved. Anyone interested can contact Carolyn Tossell, Volunteering Coordinator at Mount Kelly.
