Our Geography and Biology departments hosted a lecture on Dartmoor Peatland and Peatland Restoration – a topic our pupils may face questions on in their A Level examinations next year.
Steve Edmunds, from the South West Peatland Partnership and National Trust, gave a comprehensive overview of peatland and its importance in the Carbon Cycle and in Biodiversity, and outlined the work being done on Dartmoor to preserve and re-establish peat coverage on our local moorland.
Our Year 12 Geography and Biology pupils now have the chance to follow up the lecture by spending a day doing work experience on Peatland Restoration near Princetown.
