Posted: 27th June 2024

Ten Economics A Level pupils had the unique opportunity to visit luxury five star manor Gidleigh Park on the outskirts of Chagford, Dartmoor National Park.

Famed for its culinary credentials and award-winning restaurant, Gidleigh Park is a beautifully furnished Tudor-style country house, set within 107 acres of mature grounds on the northern bank of the North River Teign. It is one of thirteen hotels in the Andrew Brownsword Hotel group.

After enjoying mouth-watering croissants, freshly baked by Michelin star holding Head Chef, Chris Eden, the pupils were treated to a tour of some of the hotel’s 24 Arts and Crafts style rooms and spa suites, gardens, pavilion and putting course.

Ian Shortland, Business Development Manager and Simon Franks, General Manager treated the pupils to an insider’s view of how the hotel business is operated, their marketing and business strategies, state of the local hospitality industry and the level of detail the hotel pursues to ensure they maintain their luxury brand status.

Tim Meldrum, Teacher of Business and Economics said, “It was a very special opportunity for our pupils to see inside an extremely interesting and well-run business, and they all really enjoyed the experience.

Mount Kelly Reward Card holders are all invited to enjoy a 10% discount on the prevailing rate for bed and breakfast.
