Choosing courses for Sixth Form is rarely an easy task. This week many of our Year 11 pupils were able to attend four ‘taster’ lessons to give them an idea of what to expect if they chose those subjects for Year 12. This opportunity to attend a Sixth Form style lesson was particularly important for those pupils considering new subjects such as Psychology or Economics, whilst in Art, pupils had the opportunity to try explore the experimental side of A Level with plaster casting, spray painting and pot throwing. It is hoped that they all gained a useful insight into what is ahead of them once they have completed their GCSEs.
As part of our provision of Careers Guidance this year, pupils were offered an opportunity to speak to a qualified Careers Adviser. These one-to-one interviews – via an online meeting – used the results from the Unifrog psychometric testing as a basis for discussion. Bryony Thomas Careers Consulting employs a team of experienced careers advisors who were able to give impartial and independent advice, including notes and action points for each pupil, to help them make choices about their next steps and those further down line such as university courses or apprenticeships.
We are very grateful to OMKs Matt Courtis and John Perry who gave their time online this week to help prepare one of our Oxbridge candidates for their upcoming interview. Matt has studied at both Oxford and Cambridge and John is currently studying Engineering at Cambridge. They were able to give insight into the interview process from their own experiences, useful tips on how to prepare for the day, and how to hopefully enjoy the experience!
Members of staff have also been helping to prepare pupils for medical interviews, additional admissions tests, and putting together art portfolios as part of their application process. UCAS offers have been flooding in over the last few weeks and a few of our pupils will start the Christmas holiday with all five offers under their belt.
