Science Week has been a whirlwind of fun and learning in the Pre-Prep. The week began with the children being molecules – zooming around as gas molecules, acting as water contained in a huge chalk bottle, or standing as still as an ice cube. They were also given an ‘ice baby’ to observe.
Pupils were spellbound by the magical happenings in the Physics and Chemistry laboratories at the College on Tuesday afternoon. The children made marshmallow monsters with Miss Russo and watched them expand in a vacuum. They also experienced a super Chemistry activity with Mrs Baldock, involving colours, milk and washing up liquid, which certainly inspired a new generation of budding scientists.
A highlight for Year 2 pupils was a trip to The Dartmoor Ice Cream Company, where they were treated to an interactive lesson about how to make ice cream and created their own limited-edition tub.
A fascinating visit from the Bug Man gave pupils the chance to find out about – and handle – all sorts of amazing animals.
Each day the children have added information to their States of Matter posters by thinking about what they had learnt during the previous day. By the end of the week, they have built up an impressive amount of knowledge about solids, liquids and gases.
