From Reception onwards we make learning a rewarding and stimulating experience at Mount Kelly, building pupils’ enthusiasm for exploration, investigation and discovery.
We want our pupils to bounce into school, knowing they have full, exciting and active days ahead of them. We believe that every child is an individual and we aim to put the child at the heart of everything we do.
A healthy balance of time is given to core academic subjects whilst promoting the importance of sport and creative subjects such as Drama, ICT, Art, Music, DT and our Shackleton programme. Learning goes beyond the classroom with regular trips and activities that bring the curriculum to life.
We are passionate about fostering a love of reading amongst all of our pupils. The use of the Accelerated Reader [AR] programme with its personal targets and regular quizzing on books read, in tandem with daily reading periods and core-texts in English classes, means that all of our pupils are fully immersed in an ever deepening reading culture.
Pupils enjoy daily free time outdoors to play with their friends, learning to get along with each other in a more unstructured environment. They have the freedom to explore the different areas of the school grounds, including Sunny Slopes, Adventure Play Ground, The Stable Yard, Sports Hall Playground and the Jungle, whilst safe in the knowledge there is a roaming team of duty staff on hand.
The school day starts from 08:15 with formal registration starting at 08:25. For those parents committed to busy working lives we offer a breakfast club service where children can be dropped at school from 07:30 and enjoy a cooked or Continental breakfast.
Assemblies are held on Mondays and Fridays, when the Head of Prep finishes the week by celebrating the successes of individual pupils. On other days, PSHE, House and Form Assemblies, and Choir practice are held before classes begin at 09:10.
The school day officially finishes at 16:35 and is followed by a busy and broad range of After School Clubs. We want every child to explore their horizons, try new activities and pursue their own interests and hobbies. Simultaneously, we offer the opportunity for children to conduct their prep under the supervision of duty staff. Children are welcome to stay for supper with our boarders and, if required, stay for boarders’ prep and evening activities.
